Andrew Dominic: Timeless elegance & the beauty of timber
Timeless elegance defines Andrew Dominic’s hand-made, fine wooden furniture. The brand was established in 2009 by British furniture designer-maker and his South African wife, Susie. With workshops in Cape Town, South Africa, where the business began, and in the United Kingdom, where Andrew grew up, this journey has come full circle back to Andrew’s roots in Devon, in the West of England.
FROM BOATS TO FURNITURE
With an engineering background and love of the sea, Andrew found his passion for working with wood on classic yachts in the Mediterranean. He honed his skills at Rowden Atelier – an internationally renowned woodworking school - where he learnt the fine art of furniture making and his interest in design began.
HONORING THE INTRICACY AND DIVERSITY OF WOOD
Andrew loves and understands the intricacies and diversity of wood, and embraces the hand-crafted nature of joinery. His passion for craftsmanship and eye for detail are passed along to his team. Each member undergoes a rigorous apprenticeship, ensuring quality and craft are embedded in every piece of furniture.
A SUSTAINABLE & POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE PLANET
Sustainability is at the heart of this business. In an industry that has a direct impact on the environment, Andrew makes it his responsibility to ensure that his impact is a positive one; the team uses only hardwoods from sustainably managed forests, only natural oil finishes and water based glues are used, and wood waste is composted and added back into the natural life cycle. The business is close to creating a zero carbon footprint in their workshops.
