Zilungile Hanise is a 31-year-old Artist and Surface Designer who lives in iDutywa, South Africa. Born and raised in Mthatha, a small city in the Eastern Cape, she has always been interested in drawing and design from a young age and went to study Interior Design at Inscape Educational Group where she graduated in 2015. While studying there, she discovered her love for art, furniture, and surface design and how all these elements formed part of the essence and aesthetic of spaces.

On the 24th of November 2020 she was part of a group of artists that exhibited their work in an exhibition hosted by Chosi with the help of Mandela Bay municipality to help re-ignite art industry in Gqeberha. In September 2021 she was selected as one of the 12 incubatees for the first Artist Alliance programme which was Sponsored and curated by the V&A Waterfront. In August 2022 she exhibited her artwork in a group exhibition which was hosted by Ava Gallery to celebrate 10 years of First Thursdays and is a part of the 2023 Youth Livelihood Virtual Museum hosted by the Human Sciences Research Council.

Zilungile creates works that explore the themes of human emotions and identity in her journey of self-discovery. Her abstract work is an exploration of colour, form, and emotions and her creative process is influenced by her background in design and technical drawing. Her work unfolds her journey of confronting her emotions when it comes to what she experiences in her life and through her work, she hopes to evoke a sense of curiosity and invites her audience on a complex and beautiful adventure of vulnerability and self-discovery.
